First released in 1999, Pokémon Fossil is the second expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This 108 card set features the powerful rarity known as “power trio” cards – Aerodactyl, Kabutops, and Omastar. With powerful attacks and a sturdy HP, the cards were preeminent at the time of release. In addition, 26 Trainer cards were added, introducing new mechanics and providing powerful options for players.
The set also brought more Pokémon from the Kanto region to the card game, like Zapdos, Snorlax, Exeggutor, and Muk. Alongside new Pokemon cards, Fossil also included Non-Holo (or “common”) cards that still remain useful in play today. Some of these cards include Machop, Spearow, and Shellder. Fossil was the first set to introduce two-energy type cards, requiring specific types of energy to use attacks. These dual-type cards included Alakazam, Fearow, and Machamp.
