
The Pokémon Trading Card Game Base Set is the first Pokémon card set, released on October 20, 1996 by Media Factory in Japan and May 1, 1999 in North America. The set includes 102 cards, consisting of 64 basic Energy cards, 8 Pokémon ex cards and 30 Trainer cards. The set features the original 151 Pokémon from the first generation of the Pokémon video game series, including popular Pokémon such as Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charizard.
Nearly all cards from the Base Set have a white Pokemon logo at the bottom left corner, with the exception of the rare holo cards and special promotional cards, which have a black logo. Other symbols of the Base Set include Basics, Baby, Stage 1, Stage 2, Legendary, and Colorless Pokémon. All Holographic cards also have a shiny design, making them highly sought after as collector's items.
