The HGSS Promos are a set of promotional cards released in conjunction with the release of the fifteenth installment in the popular Pokemon series, the HeartGold and SoulSilver video games. Released exclusively in Japan, the Promos consisted of seven cards, each featuring one of the game’s legendary creatures: Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, and Lugia. All of the HGSS Promos are of the rare holo variety, featuring a broader range of colors and reflective highlights. The cards measure 3.5" by 2.5" and have a glossy finish to them.
The cards were released over the course of a few weeks, beginning in January 2010 and lasting until February of the same year. They were distributed gradually through various places, such as special Pokemon-related events, participating stores, and magazine subscriptions. Each card was distributed with a corresponding alternate art card, either Professor Oak or Professor Elm, in addition to other promotional items.
